Coaching is one of the most impactful skills in a learning organization. It is the skill used to transfer skill from one individual to another. Coaching speeds up learning through the use of feedback. Someone that is knowledgeable and experienced in a particular skill provides feedback to someone that is less experienced and knowledgeable, which is much faster learning than learning through one's own experiences. This is especially true in a complex skill or task. Being highly skilled at coaching will not only impact the speed and depth of learning by the learner, but also impact their level of motivation, their commitment level, their level of autonomy, and their performance in that skill.
This course will help you better understand how to transfer skill effectively to a learner. We'll focus in depth on the four steps of coaching: preparation, the event, feedback, and follow-up. You'll learn how to prepare yourself as a coach, as well as how to prepare the learner for an impactful event. We'll cover core coaching concepts such as emotional curve, learning styles, gap creation, coaching styles, feedback rules, and learning plans. By the end of this course you will know how to lead a coaching event with a learner that leads to increased skill, changes in behaviour, and higher performance by the learner.
